The Bruces moved to Cuyahoga Falls from Stone Creek, Ohio in 2000. Kirk is the pastor at Pilgrim Church in Cuyahoga Falls. All of our children, Cady, Chelsey, and Luke, are Cuyahoga Falls alum and members of the alumni band. Cady Dannemiller and her husband, Sam live in the Seattle area. Cady is a design engineer for Creative Motion Control and Sam is a software engineer for Xbox. Chelsey Kirkland and her husband Matt live in Fairlawn. Chelsey is pursuing her PhD at Kent and can be seen running around Richardson with Girls on the Run. Matt works for Quadax in the healthcare industry. Luke and his wife Erin live in Williston, ND where Luke is a field engineer for Schlumberger and she is a licensed music therapist.
We LOVE traveling to new and interesting places. We towed our camper to many of the the country's national parks. Our visit to Grand Canyon included hiking to the bottom of the canyon, AND BACK UP. Years later Kirk and I took a raft trip on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. More recently we loved trekking across a glacier with crampons and kayaking in and around icebergs in Alaska. We also have a Christmas tree farm and raise honey bees in Monroe County, a part of the Appalachian Plateau in southeast Ohio.
I graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Elementary Education 1-8, earned a Special Education certificate (SLD, SBH K-12) from Capital University, and hold a master's degree in Educational Administration with a principal's license also from Kent State. I began my teaching career at Lakewood Local Schools in Licking County teaching 5th and 6th grade resource room and 3rd grade. When we moved to Stone Creek I took an 8 year leave of absence to be home with our children and home-schooled them for a couple of years. I began teaching at Cuyahoga Falls as a tutor for 6 years serving Richardson, Newberry, Bolich, and Silver Lake. Since then I have been here at Richardson in room 31.
